In 2019, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei teamed up with the German DIY store HORNBACH to create a readymade art piece for people to build themselves at home. ‘Safety Jackets Zipped the Other Way’ consists only of standard hardware store materials: a number of safety jackets joined together by their zippers to become a functionless soft sculpture in its own right.
With this project, Ai Weiwei stays true to his working method, which is based on an unpretentious, democratic understanding of art: Art belongs to everyone and everyone has the ability to create art in every moment.
And Sheila? As one of the project’s PR and communication partners, we engaged local and German press to garner exclusive story-driven features and interviews.
